It's on again! The MV youth car wash is back on for 2019, Saturday 16th November 2-5pm. Bring along your dirty vehicles (cars, utes, trucks, buses, tractors, Learjets etc.) and the youth will wash them for free.
Okay, there's a slight catch to the term "free"... we are seeking a donation to Bingara, an area in the New England region of drought effected NSW. This area has been hammered by the drought. Farmers are struggling to keep their cattle alive. The local Anglican minister of Bingara recently noted that "cattle have been starving to death in our area and will continue to until the drought breaks. It is desperate times for many farmers. The average rainfall for our area is 28 inches. Last year we got 13 inches of rain and this year up to today we have received less than 5 inches. Huge numbers of breeding stock have already been sold to abattoirs, while some stock is too poor to truck, so will have to be fed, shot or starve to death. The cost of hay and grain is skyrocketing (double or three times what it should cost) and becoming unaffordable for many because of its scarcity and the high demand for it".
Last year, we raised $834 through the car wash, for TEAR Australia. This year, let's smash that target!
The irony of washing cars with water to raise money for an area that doesn't have water, is not lost on us, hence the water that will be used for the car wash will be from harvested rain water. It will also mean we comply with Sydney's water restrictions.
